Restaurants
Atelier Manna– 1076 N Coast Highway The only Michelin Bib Gourmand in Encinitas and one of the most extraordinary brunch experiences on the North County coast that I have experienced. Chef Andrew Bachelier (formerly of Jeune et Jolie and now partner in Chick and Hawk below) opened with a food-as-medicine philosophy and a commitment to local sourcing. The Turkish poached eggs in garlicky yogurt with chili butter are a revelation. The Manna Bowl with farro, quinoa furikake, and salanova mix is chefs kiss. The zero-proof cocktail program is as considered as anything else on the menu.
Chick and Hawk – 145 Leucadia BlvdYes, that Hawk. Tony Hawk, the most decorated skateboarder in history, lives in Encinitas and opened this restaurant as a love letter to the community. Worth visiting for the food and the story behind it.
Valentina – 1536 N Coast Highway 101 Valentina is so chic. They serve fresh, vibrant Italian dishes with a modern twist, from house-made pastas to seasonal small plates. Its bright, airy interiors and sunny patio make it perfect for a weekend brunch or a romantic dinner.
Buona Forchetta – 520 S Coast Highway 101 A true neighborhood favorite, Buona Forchetta delivers classic, wood-fired pizzas, fresh pastas, and Italian comfort food in a warm, inviting space. Casual yet polished, it's ideal for family dinners or a night out with friends.
Nectarine Grove – 105 S Coast Highway 101 Nectarine Grove is an ALL ORGANIC restaurant and brings California-inspired small plates and fresh, seasonal cocktails to a breezy, modern setting. Honey's Bistro – 550 S Coast Highway 101 Honey's is a charming, intimate spot for breakfast and brunch, beloved by locals for its housemade everything and genuinely warm hospitality. Arrive early on weekends, as the line forms for a reason.

Goodonya serves a 100% organic menu of burgers, tacos, pizzas, burritos, and fresh breakfast dishes all made with non-GMO, responsibly sourced ingredients. Whether you're a clean eater or just someone who wants food that actually makes you feel good, this is the spot. One of the most beloved restaurants on the 101 for a reason.

It's always busy, the line moves fast, and every bite is worth it. A non-negotiable stop for anyone living in or visiting Encinitas.
Coffee
Whatever Forever Coffee – 402 S Coast Highway 101 Brand new coffee shop in the heart of Leucadia. Ideal for work, a casual meet-up, or grabbing a quick caffeine boost while strolling the Coast Highway.
Coffee Coffee – 970 N Coast Highway 101 A cozy, neighborhood spot, Coffee Coffee is perfect for morning pick-me-ups, casual chats, or a quiet work session. Friendly service and quality beans make it a local favorite.
Pannikin Coffee & Tea – 510 N Coast Highway 101 One of the most beloved coffee institutions in North County San Diego, Pannikin has been serving the community for decades. Set inside a charming historic train depot, it's a true Encinitas landmark and a must-visit for anyone new to the area.
Beaches
Moonlight Beach Encinitas's most beloved beach and the heart of the community. Moonlight is wide, welcoming, and stunning at any time of day. Families, surfers, and sunset seekers all call it home. Parking is easier than most coastal spots, and the facilities are well-maintained.
Swami's Beach Named after the Self-Realization Fellowship temple perched above it, Swami's is one of the most iconic surf breaks in Southern California. Even if you are not a surfer, watching the lineup from the blufftop is worth the stop.
Stone Steps Beach A hidden gem accessible via a steep staircase from the bluffs, Stone Steps is quieter and more secluded than Moonlight — ideal for those who prefer their beach time undisturbed. Bring everything you need because there are no facilities.
Boutiques & Shopping
Hansen Surfboards – 1105 S Coast Highway 101 A true Encinitas institution since 1961, Hansen's is still the largest surf shop in San Diego County — family owned and operated with over 20,000 square feet of surf, skate, and snow gear. Whether you need a board, a wetsuit, or just a great hoodie, this is the definitive stop.
Bliss 101 – S Coast Highway 101 Housed in a historic beach cottage from 1911, Bliss 101 is a haven for unique treasures including handcrafted jewelry and stunning home decor. Local artisans, fair trade goods, and a warmth that is genuinely rare in retail. One of the most charming shops on the 101.
Salt Culture – 930 S Coast Highway 101 Salt Culture is one of those places that perfectly captures the laid-back yet elevated spirit of Encinitas. Created by local surf icon Rob Machado and his wife Sophie, this thoughtfully curated boutique is tucked inside a charming 1930s beach bungalow right on Highway 101. Inside, you'll find a collection of men's and women's fashion, unique home goods, gifts, and Rob Machado's custom surfboards. Equal parts surf culture, design, and coastal lifestyle, Salt Culture feels less like a store and more like a reflection of the Encinitas community itself.
Encinitas Surfboards – 107 N Coast Highway 101 Encinitas Surfboards has that true local-roots feel and been around since 1975, with an excellent board collection and staff whose local surf spot knowledge is second to none. A great complement to Hansen's if you want the smaller, more personal shop experience.
Wellness & Local Life

The meditation gardens overlook the ocean and are open to the public — a genuinely peaceful stop that captures something unique about Encinitas's spirit.

Four Moons Spa – A Bali like garden sanctuary with amazing menu of massages and healing services. My go to for a quick massage and relaxation session.
Living in Encinitas
Thinking about making the move? Read my complete Moving to Encinitas 2026 guidefor everything you need to know about neighborhoods, schools, beaches, and the current real estate market.
Encinitas is one of those rare places that feels like a discovery even after you have lived here for years. Stretching along six miles of Pacific coastline in North County San Diego, it is a community of distinct neighborhoods, each with its own personality. Leucadia has the creative, slightly bohemian energy of a town that has not forgotten its roots. Cardiff-by-the-Sea draws surfers, young families, and longtime locals who gather at the same spots decade after decade. Olivenhain offers a quieter, more private atmosphere with larger parcels and an equestrian feel. And the town center of Encinitas itself has evolved into one of the most walkable, vibrant stretches on the North County coast.
What draws people here is not one thing. It is the combination of exceptional weather, a deeply rooted surf culture, proximity to both San Diego and Los Angeles, and a quality of life that is genuinely hard to replicate. Residents tend to stay. And the ones who leave almost always come back.
Encinitas Real Estate in 2026
The Encinitas real estate market in 2026 is defined by one clear dynamic: strong demand and shrinking supply. As of May 2026, there are just 58 single family homes available in the 92024 zip code, down more than 43% from this time last year. Months of supply have compressed to 2.1, a figure that firmly places Encinitas in seller's market territory.
Prices reflect that pressure. The median single family sale price reached $2,699,000 in May 2026, representing a 26.5% increase year over year. Year to date, the median sits at $2,457,500, up nearly 19% from the same period in 2025. Homes are selling at 98.2% of original list price on average, which means well priced properties are landing close to asking with limited negotiating room for buyers.
For those considering a move here, the data tells a clear story. New listings are down nearly 15% year over year while pending sales are up more than 25%. Buyers are active and inventory is not keeping pace. Preparation matters more than ever in this market, and working with someone who knows the nuances of each Encinitas neighborhood is not optional, it is the difference between securing a home and watching it go to someone else.
The attached and condominium market is somewhat softer, with a year to date median of $1,133,350 and days on market averaging 34. For buyers who are flexible on property type, that segment offers more room to negotiate and a wider window to move thoughtfully.
